The Phases of the Armenian Genocide of 1915
Professor Bernard Coulie examines the socio-political context surrounding the events that led to the extermination of 1.5 million Armenians from the Ottoman Empire in 1915, reviewing the meticulous planning and execution of policies that aimed to disarm, plunder and eradicate the Empire’s Armenian population. Finally, Dr. Coulie also addresses the implications of the refusal to recognize the genocide and its effects on the survivors and their descendants.

Bernard Coulie
Dr. Bernard Coulie is a professor of Byzantine studies, Armenian and Georgian studies, and European culture and identity at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, where he has also served as Rector of the University and Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. Dr. Coulie holds a PhD in classics and oriental studies and has completed post-doctoral studies at the Dumbarton Oaks Center for Byzantine Studies (Harvard University) and the University of Vienna.
